Brazilian Laser Hair Removal at Seda: What to Expect

Brazilian laser hair removal in Austin — the prep, sensation, sessions, and aftercare honest answers you came to Seda looking for.

The Brazilian is one of the most-requested treatments at Seda — and one of the most-Googled. We get it. It’s also one of the most rewarding to do well, because the results are dramatic and the area is sensitive enough that experience really matters.

If you’re considering Brazilian laser hair removal in Austin, here’s the no-nonsense version of what to expect, from someone who’d rather you arrive informed than nervous.

What “Brazilian” Actually Means at Seda

The terminology varies clinic to clinic, but at Seda, we keep it clear:

  • Bikini line: removes hair that would show outside a standard bikini cut. The front sides only.
  • Brazilian (full): removes all hair from the front, between, and the perianal area.
  • Brazilian (landing strip / modified): removes most hair but leaves a small strip or shape on the front.

We’ll talk through what you want during your consultation. Nothing is one-size-fits-all, and the goal is your comfort and confidence — not a default.

Does It Hurt?

Less than waxing. More than nothing.

The bikini area has more nerve endings than, say, your shin. So sensation is real. With our modern dual-wavelength laser and integrated cooling, most clients describe it as a warm rubber band snap rather than a sting. Some areas (the perianal area, the front bikini line where hair is densest) feel sharper for a few seconds.

What helps:

  • Take ibuprofen 30-45 minutes before your appointment if you’re heat-sensitive
  • Stay hydrated the day of
  • Avoid caffeine right before (it can increase nerve sensitivity)
  • Avoid scheduling during the week of your period (more on that below)

A typical Brazilian session is 5-10 minutes from start to finish.

How Many Sessions Will You Need?

Most clients reach what we call “maintenance smooth” — where you’re not feeling regrowth between sessions — in 6 to 8 sessions, spaced 5-6 weeks apart.

After that, plan on one or two annual touch-ups to keep dormant follicles in check. Hormonal shifts (pregnancy, perimenopause, going on or off hormonal birth control) can wake up follicles years later, so the touch-up isn’t a failure of the laser — it’s biology.

Brazilian Laser Hair Removal and Your Period

This is the question we field most. The straight answer:

You can technically still get treated during your period. We ask that you wear a tampon (cup if you prefer). Pads make the area inaccessible.

That said, most people prefer to skip period week because the area is more sensitive in the days right before and during menstruation. You’ll feel more sensation from the laser. If your cycle is regular, we recommend scheduling for the days right after your period ends — your skin is calmer then.

If you forgot to check the calendar and showed up anyway: it’s fine. We work around it.

What About Pregnancy or Breastfeeding?

We don’t perform laser hair removal during pregnancy. There’s no strong evidence of harm, but there’s also not enough evidence of safety, and your skin’s hormonal responses are unpredictable during pregnancy anyway.

Breastfeeding is generally fine for body laser, but we’ll talk through it during consultation. Some providers wait until weaning out of caution; we’ll discuss your situation specifically.

Prep: The 48 Hours Before Your Appointment

Here’s what to do (and not do) in the lead-up:

Do:

  • Shave the area 24 hours before — yes, fully shave. Stubble too short to see is exactly what the laser wants.
  • Hydrate.
  • Exfoliate gently in the shower the day before (no acid scrubs, just a washcloth or gentle physical exfoliant).

Don’t:

  • Wax, sugar, or pluck for at least 4 weeks before. The laser needs the hair root in the follicle to work. No root = no treatment.
  • Use retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or other actives on the area for 5-7 days before.
  • Get sun exposure on the area for at least 2 weeks before — yes, this includes tanning beds. Austin sun matters here.
  • Use self-tanner on the area for 2 weeks before. Self-tanner is melanin in a bottle, and the laser will react to it.

Aftercare: The First 48 Hours

Immediately after your session, the area may be slightly pink and feel like a mild sunburn. This is normal and resolves in a few hours.

For the first 48 hours:

  • No hot showers, hot tubs, or saunas. Lukewarm only.
  • No workouts — sweat can irritate freshly treated skin.
  • No sex for 24-48 hours (yes, we’re saying it; the friction matters).
  • No tight clothing — wear loose cotton, skip the leggings for a day.
  • No pools or lake water. Chlorine and bacteria are extra-irritating on freshly treated skin. (Austin clients, this is the one most people forget.)
  • SPF on the area if it’ll see sun. Sunbetter SPF 75, recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, is what we keep in the studio.

For the next 1-2 weeks:

  • Keep using gentle skincare. Our Cleansing Gel is a safe choice for sensitive post-treatment skin.
  • Don’t pick or shave aggressively if you see shedding hairs (those are dead follicles being expelled — totally normal).
  • Stay out of direct sun on the treated area.

What “Pineapple Effect” Skin Looks Like

About 7-14 days after your session, you’ll notice tiny black dots that look like pineapple skin. This is the laser working. Those are dead hairs being pushed out of disabled follicles. Resist the urge to pluck — just gently wash the area and they’ll fall out on their own over the next 1-2 weeks.

Don’t be alarmed if regrowth looks patchy at first. After session 1, you’ll lose about 20-30% of hair permanently. After session 2, another 20-30%. By session 4-5, you’ll see clear progress. By session 6-8, you’ll be living the silk-soft life.
